Coronado State Monument

Major projects include rebuilding steps, a retaining wall, and the landing at the river's edge, plus the construction of a new trail along the river to connect the landing with the existing trail downstream. This will involve lots of pruning and chainsaw removal of large Russian olive trees. If time remains, for those interested in carpentry and historic structures, the New Mexico Volunteers for the Outdoors will have exclusive use of ten 8'-long sections of old vigas recently removed from the Painted Kiva. We've been asked to fashion these historic timbers into attractive benches for the next generation of Coronado State Monument visitors.

This project is planned as a day project, and the only meal provided will be lunch on Saturday. I have made arrangements with the adjacent commercial campground, Coronado Campground, to allow out-of-town members to have free camping on Friday and Saturday evenings. Please give the leader one week notice, if you desire a camp site.
