Map to St. Peter's Dome Trail Project

This one-day project to improve the southern end of Trail # 118 in the Jemez Ranger District of the Santa Fe National Forest is a relatively short commute from both Albuquerque and Santa Fe. From I-25 between Albuquerque and Santa Fe take exit 264 west to Cochiti Lake. We will meet by 8:30 AM at the Cochiti convenience store and gas station -- about a mile past the dam. (Before leaving note your mileage for reimbursement purposes.) From the store we will consolidate into high-clearance vehicles and drive approximately 4 miles north on Forest Road 268, then 2 more miles up Forest Road 289 to the trailhead.

The trail to St Peter's Dome begins in predominately piñon-juniper habitat. With expert guidance from Phyllis Martinez, we will trim trees and brush to accommodate horses with riders as well as improve drainage and perform other trail maintenance. Lunch will be provided at the trailhead, so please notify Larry Benson by email or phone no later than April 22 if you plan to participate so he can bring enough food and drinks.
