THIS TRIP IS CURRENTLY FULL. If you are interested, please contact the leader in case there are any late cancellations. We will be clearing the Little Dry Trail (#180) on the west side of the Gila Wilderness. The first day (Friday), we will hike in about 3.5 miles and camp on little dry creek, clearing trail as we go. Saturday we will move camp to Simmons Saddle (high on the side of Sacaton Mountain), about 4 miles. We will stay 2 nights at Simmons Saddle and return to the trailhead on Monday. This trail has many deadfalls needing to be cut out and lots of brush encroaching on the trail. Our objective will be to clear the trail, making it passable and easier to follow.
We are planning group meals for supper Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and breakfast Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Supplies to make your own lunch will be available Saturday and Sunday. We will have stock support to carry in group food and tools. We will meet at the Glenwood Ranger Station (1/4 mile south of Glenwood) at 9:00am Friday. From Albuquerque, take I-25 south to Socorro and go west on hwy 60 to Datil (63 miles). At Datil, turn left on hwy 12 (watch for right hand turn in Reserve) for 75 miles. Turn left on hwy 180 and continue south 30 miles to Glenwood. From Glenwood, we will continue south on hwy 180 11 miles to Sacaton Rd., turn left and go 3 miles to FR 196, turn left again and go 3.5 miles to the trailhead. Sacaton Rd. and FR 196 are well maintained dirt roads good for two wheel drive.
