Map to Pino Trail

Please join us for our annual maintenance of the Pino Trail, the VFO's Adopt-A-Trail in the Sandia Mountains. This year, we'll concentrate on the upper 2 miles of the trail, and the good folks at the Sandia Peak Tramway have graciously agreed to transport twenty volunteers to the top of the mountain. From there, we'll hike about 2-1/2 miles to the trail before beginning work. Work will include clearing several stretches of encroaching scrub oak and brush, maintaining the trail outslope, cleaning out existing water bars and installing new ones where appropriate, and potentially removing fallen trees. The total length of the hike will be about 6-1/2 miles, and at the end of the day we'll shuttle everyone from the Elena Gallegos Picnic area back to their cars.

This project is strictly limited to twenty volunteers, and you must sign up by September 14th so that we can provide the Tramway with an accurate count. We'll assemble at the Tramway base at 8:00 AM. From I-40, take Exit 167, Tramway Blvd (NM 556), and travel north 8.4 miles to Tramway Rd, turn right on Tramway Rd and travel 1 mile to the Tramway parking lot. From I-25, take Exit 234 and travel east on Tramway Rd for 4.9 miles before turning left on Tramway Rd and traveling 1 mile to the Tramway parking lot

Volunteers will need to bring water, snacks, and their own lunch. Long pants, long sleeves, and gloves are required. Rain gear is recommended. Charlie will be coordinating the shuttle service, so please let him know if you can help with that.
