Sitting Bull Falls Map

Few things are as wonderful as water in the desert. Join us at the oasis of clear water and a 150 foot waterfall of Sitting Bull Falls in the Guadalupe Mountains of southeastern New Mexico. This Lincoln National Forest Recreation Area is north of Carlsbad Caverns National Park. We will be doing general trail maintenance such as tread work, clearing of overgrowth, and closing some social trails. We will be camping just outside the recreation area and, of course, will be supplying Saturday dinner and Sunday breakfast.

Directions: From Albuquerque, take I-25 south to San Antonio and US 380 east to Roswell. From Santa Fe take US 285 south to Roswell. From Roswell take US 285 south through Artesia, heading toward Carlsbad. Near Brantley Lake State Park and before Carlsbad turn right on Route 137. Follow signs for Queen, Dog Canyon and Sitting Bull Falls. Roughly 15 to 20 miles south of the turn, you will see a green sign for Sitting Bull Falls. Take a right and go 7 miles to the falls.

For those coming from Las Cruces and southern New Mexico go south to El Paso on I-10 taking the 375 Loop and exit on Montana for Routes 62, 180. Head east through Texas and back into New Mexico. Approximately 10 miles past the entrance to Carlsbad Caverns and White City turn left on County Road 408, also called Dark Canyon Road. Drive west for 22 miles to Route 137. At the T turn left and go about 2 miles to the signed turn-off for Sitting Bull Falls. Turn right and go another 7 miles. Anyone wanting more information please call or e-mail Jim. Hope to see you there.
