Come visit the cool South and lend a hand to our project in the White Mountain Wilderness. We will be working and camping at about 8,000 feet, just north of Sierra Blanca (ca. 12,000 ft.), the highest peak in southern New Mexico. There will be a variety of work from removing blow down trees to tread maintenance and corridor improvement. Anyone who has crosscut experience is strongly encouraged to join us. Work days will be all day Saturday and one-half day Sunday. Saturday dinner and Sunday breakfast will be provided.
To get to the work and camp site from Albuquerque or Santa Fe take I-25 south to exit 139 at San Antonio (and if you are hungry, treat yourself to a chile-cheeseburger at the Owl). From San Antonio take Route 380 east through Carrizozo. Approximately 7 miles east of Carrizozo turn right (south) on Route 37 and drive about 12 miles through Nogal until you reach a signed turnoff on the right for Bonita Lake and Forest Road 107. In about 4 or 5 miles you will pass Bonita Lake. Continue another mile and turn left on Forest Road 107C to the South Fork Campground. From the south, go to Ruidoso and take Route 37 about 10 miles to the turn off for Bonita Lake.
