Map to Centennial Trail

Please note: at press time the Carson National Forest remains closed and it is unknown if it will open in time for this project to take place. Please contact Ray to confirm the project is a “go”.

The Centennial Trail connects the West Fork of the Santa Barbara drainage to Trampas Canyon. The trail encompasses an elevation gain of up to 1000 feet and we'll be working at elevations up to 10,000 feet. The Centennial is a rugged trail and reconstruction should be rewarding in a classic Wilderness setting. Work will include removal of tree blow-down, tread restoration, and installation of erosion control features.

We'll be working from a base camp located south of Penasco on Forest Road 639 and the Rio Chiquito where it intersects the Centennial Trail. FR 639 is easy to follow from Penasco, through Rodarte and Llano de San Juan.

We'll assemble at the base camp on Thursday, August 4 and set up our personal gear and group kitchen. Also, time permitting, we'll preview the trail and the work to be performed. Work will start in earnest on Friday, August 5, and go through Tuesday, August 9. We'll work a full day on Tuesday and pack-up and return home on Tuesday evening. Group meals will be provided beginning Thursday evening extending through Tuesday lunch.

Volunteers may participate for the entire project or for only one day or anything in between. All volunteer time is appreciated! Please sign up by July 29 and don't hesitate to ask should you have questions.
