Many of you were not even born when the first Pecos backpack occurred in 1994. For those of you who have missed the first 17, now is your chance to camp by the rustling waters of the Rio Mora and Rito Valdez, on the eastern side of the Wilderness. Our trail work this year involves clearing a difficult to follow trail that leads up to the Bordo del Medio. The hike in from the Iron Gate campground is only six miles and it’s all downhill (honestly.)
Volunteers should not be daunted by the road going into Iron Gate; a car shuttle from Jack’s Creek may be possible. As in previous years, all meals are provided for the entire nine days. You may work for the entire project duration, or just a few. Wednesday, June 22 is a non-working day, used by volunteers to explore this wonderful wilderness. Contact the project leader for more information. Please sign up before June 14.
