We will be working with the Friends of Piedra Lisa on their adopted trail in the Sandia Mountain Wilderness. Work will include signage repair and general trail maintenance along the entire length of the trail. This will primarily involve water bar clean out and check dam construction in areas of severe water damage. We will also have sections that need to be re-benched and some old trail that needs to be obliterated.
You should come prepared for any kind of weather and bring plenty of water. Also bring a lunch, and snacks for the workday. Dress in layers and bring work gloves and sunscreen. Due to the steep terrain and ruggedness of the trail, you should be an experienced hiker. We will be carrying our tools up the trail, so make sure to pack any personal items in a backpack. If this is your first VFO project, please contact the leader directly for more information.
We will meet at the trailhead between 8:00 AM and 8:30 AM and begin our hike to the work area. We will be working all two miles of the trail, but be advised that the grade is steep with an elevation gain of 1200’ in those two miles, so come prepared for a good work out that will help you lose some of that Christmas pudding and New Year’s fudge you smeared on yourself! Anyone interested in participating must sign up with the project leader. Space limited to 12 volunteers.
